Here are the LVSP prediction for the weekday games in the American Baseball Union:

Bandits (6-6) at Aces (9-3):

I keep saying the Bandits need to win a game against an Elite team, but it never seems to happen.

The Pick: We’ll take the Aces to continue their winning ways

Matadors (3-9) at Outfitters (5-6-1):

The Matadors are making it very hard to ever pick them again! The Outfitters are basically a win one, lose one type of team. They lost their game so….

The Pick: Outfitters in an easy win.

LVABU Weekend Predictions

It’s time for our weekly ABU Predictions:

Knights (2-5) at Scorpions (1-5-1)

The Knights are coming off of a win against the Empire, and the Scorpions lost to the Ball Busters. This game will determine the #3 seed in the playoffs.

The Pick: We’ll take the Knights because we feel they are playing better baseball,

Dirty Beavers (6-4-2) at Matadors (3-8)

The Matadors haven’t played good baseball all season. The Dirty Beavers have one of the better records in the league.

The Pick: The Dirty Beavers in a blowout.

Empire (4-2-1) at Ball Busters (6-1)

Poor management has hurt the Empier this season, while the Ball Busters have been clicking all season long.

The Pick: The Ball Busters will win due to having a better management

Aces (8-3) at Outfitters (5-5-1)

The Aces are the best team in the league while the Outfitters are the protypical .500 team.

The Pick: The Aces will edge out the Outfitters, who will put up a tough challenge.

Coyotes (5-7) @ All Stars (3-8-1)

The Coyotes got snapped back to reality on Monday, while the All Stars haven’t won in weeks.

The Pick: The Coyotes will get back on the winning track.

Bandits (6-5) at Hurricanes (8-4)

This is probably the game of the week. The Canes are back to their winning way, while the Bandits have to prove they belong among the Elite.

The Pick: We’re taking the Bandits in an upset.

The United Football League is coming to Las Vegas in October but I’m not sure how many people even know that it exists. The basics on the league:

4 Teams
6 Games
Championship Game the day after Thanksgiving
4 Solid Head Coaches (Ted Cotrell, Jim Fassel, Dennis Green, Jim Haslett)

The Las Vegas Locomotives will play at Sam Boyd Stadium October 8th and 14th. Tickets can be purchased for as low as $7 at www.unlvtickets.com. So our question to you is this… will you support the United Football League?

Wood Bats or Aluminum?

Ahh, the source of great debate in the recreational baseball world… Should we use wood bats or aluminum? There are many reasons why certain leagues use certain bats, here are some examples:

Wood Bats: There are several reasons why leagues go the wood bat route, but the two that are stated the most are 1) they are safer and 2) this is the way the game is supposed to be played. Let’s face it, the pro’s use wood and the “ping” of the bat can’t quite compare to the “crack” of the bat.

Aluminum Bats: Costs and offense seem to be the two biggest reasons to use an aluminum bat. Players don’t have to worry about breaking an aluminum bat and multiple players can use the same bat… This can be a serious money saver when compared to having to buy a new wood bat every few weeks. Aluminum bats also lead to more offense as even a poorly hit ball can sometimes travel very far.

There is huge demand for Men’s baseball leagues in Las Vegas… I should know since I used to own one. Each weekend you can find dozen’s of teams playing around the Valley. From traditional metal bat leagues to competitive wood bat divisions, there is a league for all types of players. Here is a brief look at the local baseball scene

Vegas Valley Baseball League: Possibly the most well known league in the Valley, it has been in operation for quite a while. The common belief is that this is the most competitive league in the Valley. The league currently boasts of 4 division. One 18+ division, Two 28+ division, and a 35+ division.

American Baseball Union: Formerly known as the ZBL Pro Division, the ABU is more of a recreational league. It features all wood bat play and two division, the Pro Division and the Minors Division. The Minors Division is the perfect place for players new to the game or returning after a long layoff.

Southern Nevada Baseball League: Used to be known as the ZBL Elite Division. All games are played on High School fields now and the talent level is approaching that of the Vegas Valley League. This is another wood bat league. This league is more appopriate for players with High School/College Experience.
